Trek For Health

Trek for Health is an employee fundraising initiative from GSK and ViiV supporting our partners Save the Children and Amref Health Africa. It is open to employees worldwide.

Our team of 40 trekkers have been selected from 236 applications across 26 countries.

Together, they have raised almost £200,000 for our global partners, which will be matched by GSK.  Trek for Health funds support Amref Health Africa work in Kenya and Save the Children’s emergency fund and country programmes*.

The trek itself took place in February 2025.  The first seven days were spent trekking more than 75km to the challenging summit of Mount Kenya, and following this, we visited a local community and saw first-hand the important work of Amref Health Africa in Nyeri county.

Thank you for following Trek for Health!

Day 8: Our day with Amref Health Africa

Today we headed to Nyeri county to see the work of Amref Health Africa. We had the opportunity to talk to local health workers, community health promoters and local communities. This was an opportunity to understand how our fundraising is supporting the families within the community.  We visited health centres, met with community health workers and local households as well as seeing livelihood projects. It was an inspiring and humbling experience that will stay with us all for a very long time.

Tomorrow we are all headed back to Nairobi for our individual homeward journeys.

Trek for Health – what a lifetime adventure you have been!

Day 7: Final descent and time to relax

Our final three hour walk to Old Moses camp this morning where our minibuses are waiting to take us home!  Our legs are very tired but spirits are high! We were eager to leave the mountain behind us and to arrive at our tented hotel with hot showers and comfy beds. We spent the afternoon relaxing, or an option to explore Ol Pejeta, followed by a wonderful relaxed celebratory dinner. We retired to our rooms all feeling extremely proud of our achievement and looking forward to visiting local communities tomorrow with Amref Health Africa – we will be seeing some of the local work that our fundraising will support.

Day 6: Summit Day - we did it!

3am start today! After a hot drink and snacks we are off for the steep ascent to Point Lenana – the summit! We get there in time for sunrise. The final climb was hard work at this altitude. From the summit we took a moment to celebrate with each other but also take in the breathtaking views of nearby peaks of Mt Kenya. We then headed back to Simba Tam camp for a well-earned cooked breakfast before continuing our decent to Liki North camp. Today has been a long and exhausting day, but the thrill of standing at the peak was well worth it.

Some amazing photos and videos taken – we can’t wait to share with you all once we can get good signal.  Keep watching our individual social channels too.
